New Wizard of Oz dolls from Tonner Doll Company

Check out the latest releases from Tonner Doll - surprise! - They use a new body type for Tonner (it's a 19" Evangeline Ghastly body with new face sculpts, which is made from hard plastic with a vinyl head, including larger hands and even more curves and articulation!). I love the outfits.

Two new dressed dolls are available. Glinda the Good Witch™ has rooted red curls, painted blue eyes with applied lashes, and check out that dress! She includes pink glitter shoes, a resin crown and wand, gauntlets, and lots, and lots, of pink tulle. Limited to 500, she retails for $249.99. She will ship on 1/17/14.

The Wicked Witch of the West also uses the new body, is limited to 500, and ships today, 1/6/14. She retails for $249.99. She uses the light green "wicked" skin tone, has brown painted eyes with applied lashes, and rooted raven hair. Her dress is black taffeta, sequin tulle, and cotton net--it's pretty cool!--and her hat is awesome, too, with chiffon draping.

I'm just noticing that stands are sold separately for $15. This might be because the dolls may be able to stand alone, but I wouldn't count on it.

If you can call them basic, two basic dolls are also available. Absolutely Wicked Witch of the West is available, limited 500, $149.99, no stand included, shipping today. She is a rather fabulous "wicked" skin tone doll with painted blue eyes, applied lashes, and raven hair. Her outfit includes a black taffeta bodysuit with a cotton net overlay, skirt, and black ribbon trim, plus tights, and black sandals. I think she is adorable.

Only a sketch is posted so far of basic Glinda, who is called Absolutely Glinda the Good Witch.  She uses the same cameo skin tone, red curls, and blue eyes as the dressed doll, and is limited to 500 for $149.99. She also appears to be in stock. She wears a pink shantung bodysuit with sheer sleeves, a butterfly decoration on the bodice, and a glitter tulle overlay, and skirt. She also includes pink tights, and pink faux leather shoes.

Castle Stroll outfit is available today for $139.99 and is limited to 200. It's actually a green satin dress with black crinkle chiffon overlay, with a matching bolero. It includes faux leather shoes as well.

Keep in mind that these new girls can wear outfits from Wilde Imagination's Evangeline Ghastly fashions--oh me, oh my!

Tonner's Avatar collection

Wowee! It's finally here--Tonner's Avatar collection. Surprisingly (to me, at least--where have I been?) the dolls stand at about 22" and are ball-jointed resin.

Only 20 sets are currently available for shipping before Christmas. The remaining 130 dolls will ship in January. The cost is $1500 for the set--which, considering the dolls are hand-painted and blue BJDs, is quite reasonable.

The dolls have painted eyes and wigged hair, and include resin knives for accessories. I find them quite enchanting! Bravo!

The Bratter Lovers - a giftset from Integrity Toys

A new arrival from Integrity Toys is The Bratter Lovers giftset, from the Barefoot in the Park collection. Poppy Parker stars as Corie Bratter--though IMDB spells it Corrie Bratter (Jane Fonda plays her in the film). Hmm. I didn't realize it, but Robert Redford plays Paul Bratter--so it looks like I'll be watching this movie sometime soon.

I think this set turned out rather well. The box is gorgeous and quaint--I like the graphics, for example. I've been hearing about a musty smell from IT products lately, which I haven't noticed up to this point. However--I did notice on this box's shipper. I think it's the cardboard. I wonder if it's stored outside?

 

I wasn't 100% on Poppy's hairstyle or the color, but I love it in person. Even the quirky bangs are cute. Additionally, I realize centered eyes aren't Poppy's most popular look, but she's lovely with blue eyes. Mine has perfect lashes.

The outfit--wow. Well, I think you can tell when designers are working on a product they enjoy, and they really seemed to enjoy this one. I am really impressed with the coat. The bead and loop closures on the front are perfectly done, and the stitching is nicely scaled. I also like her turtleneck and corduroys.  Her shoes are short brown ankle boots. IT went out of its way for some fabulous jewelry accessories for this set--rings, earrings, and a cool bracelet, too.

Now, let's check out Chip, or rather, Paul. I'm not much for boy/man dolls in my collection, but I have to say, I'm impressed with how much Chip has matured in this set. His hair looks fantastic; he shipped with a hairnet, so it stayed in place.

Chip's outfit has lots of layers. From what I can tell, aside from the fact that the collar of his shirt might be a bit bulky, considering how much he's wearing, he looks great. That trench coat is fantastic. I really like that he includes a scarf, as well. To me, he looks like what Ken should be.

Now, unfortunately for me, my collection is currently in an uproar, so to speak. While I think both of these dolls are cute, I'm committed to either. I've been more on a resin kick lately. But this happens to me with preorders all the time. These days, if you think you might want Poppy, you have to preorder her, because she sells out so quickly. (When will I learn?)

This doll is limited to 150 and retails for $199.99. This is a reproduction of the Heatwave costume from "There's No Business Like Show Business."

She features the 16" Starlet body and Tyler skin tone, blue painted eyes, and blonde rooted hair under her black head wrap. She is wearing a black sequined bikini top with a pink printed chiffon drape, and a coordinating custom-printed skirt, lined with hot pink ruffled tulle.

Her accessories include a straw hat with floral decoration, a black beaded arm cuff, a white rickrack arm cuff, black beaded bracelets, a white rickrack bracelet, black hoop earrings, hose, black shoes, and a stand.

New Barbies: Wizard of Oz

As shown on the BarbieCollector.com site, there are three new Barbie related to the Wizard of Oz available for preorder. It looks like you can order them now, and they will deliver on May 24, 2013.

Another set of Oz dolls, you ask? What's the big deal? Well, these have been designed by Linday Kyaw, and they actually have fairly good (according to their promo photos) celebrity likenesses. Click on the links to go to the individual pages. (My paranoia about posting Barbie-licensed images is getting to me, just a little.)
