Ximilu by Xaga Doll

Ximilu by Xaga Doll by alington
Ximilu by Xaga Doll, a photo by alington on Flickr.
Love Pure Neemo? If you do, then you should consider the Red Obsidian line from Xaga Doll. I picked up one of these cuties (this girl is called Ximilu) from Mint on Card.

Also check out HDS (Hong Dou Sha), Ximigo, and also Miki or Kimi. There are two body sizes--with small breasts or giant gum balls, which Ximilu has. (The Green Obsidian body is a different size altogether, and closer to child proportions. They also carry a the Type A Red Obsidian body, similar to mature mini woman proportions, which is much less stylized than this body.)

This size, even with the gum ball boobs, can wear Azone clothing for Pure Neemo, as seen here. You can see more photos on Flickr as well. She's wearing a Licht wig, YoSD shoes, and some limited edition magnetic kitty ears as well.

Be sure to check out her adorable heart-shaped knee joints. They are so cute!

Camellia

Camellia by alington
Camellia, a photo by alington on Flickr.
One of my current favorite and versatile dolls at the moment is Soom Rosette Camellia. She is a slim mini BJD from Korea. She wears a small wig (about a 6/7), and she can wear many different clothes.

Here, she is wearing Tulabelle's Coated in Glamour dress and belt by Integrity Toys. I did have to remove her hands to fit them through the sleeves, but that was easy to do. Her shoulders are a bit large for the coat, however. The purse is also from that same outfit.

Her shoes are by Iplehouse, and the wig is by DollHeart.

Camellia has had a faceup by the talented GamerGirlLexi of 16-BIT Faceups on Den of Angels. I think she's very sweet. When I get up the nerve and patience, I'll add some eyelashes, too.

See additional photos, including a few close-ups, on Flickr.

My morphing collection

My morphing collection by alington
My morphing collection, a photo by alington on Flickr.
It's happened again! Not only have I been shuffling around my fashion dolls, but my BJD collection is going through a change as well.

In addition to adding more realistic sculpts to the line up, I've found that my fascination with Alice-themed and historical/Rococo era outfits have fallen by the wayside in favor of more contemporary styles. These can be a little difficult to find. However, I like several things about them:
  • First, they take up a lot less room to display and store.
  • Second, they are fun to mix and match. It's fun putting together pieces from several fashions and creating a new look. The versatility reminds me of playing with fashion dolls.
  • Third, you have the option of formal wear in additional casual looks, so you aren't stuck with a single style.
Here, Peak's Woods Briana and Lottie are modeling two new outfits from Angell-Studio. Briana is in Modern Forest Suit, and Lottie is wearing Blooming Rose. Briana is in a DollHeart wig, and Lottie is in a Leeke wig and DollHeart shoes. I think the outfits are really cute--well made, and simply adorable.

Spring Kissed Chloe

Chloe by alington
Chloe, a photo by alington on Flickr.
One of the cool things that can happen--but almost never does, in my case--in eclectic collections is cross-over: when outfits from one doll company happen to fit another doll.

I discovered that Fairyland's slim Chicline BJD Chloe can wear Cami & Jon and Antoinette clothing by Tonner--down to the shoes. Additionally, I discovered yesterday that FR:16 clothing by Integrity Toys also fits well.

Because Chloe's feet are magnetic, I don't even have to worry about the annoying ankle straps on these shoes. I can keep the buckles connected, remove her foot at the ankle, and slip the foot into the shoe. Then, I slip the connected straps around her ankle and reconnected her magnetic feet. Easy as pie, for some amazing shoes!

Plus, it's a fantastic outfit. It's from a limited edition W Club doll, the first FR:16 doll called Spring Kissed from last year.

You can see a few more photos on Flickr.

The kitty bomb.

Charming Rogita by alington
Charming Rogita, a photo by alington on Flickr.
Do you know you else likes to kitty bomb my doll photos?

Bear.

This is Rogita, on Peak's Woods Absolute Beauty body, who happens to be just about the same dimensions as Tonner Doll's American Model. She's modeling Charming Lady, the fabulous new outfit by Tonner Doll.

It's actually a pale blue, not gray, and it's a separate skirt and jacket. Simply a gorgeous outfit.

Rogita is wearing her default glass eyes and a LeekeWorld wig in Khaki (really, it's a dark green!).

And yes, that's Bear's tail there. You can see more photos, without Bear crashing the frame, on Flickr.

I may not be THAT bad of a collector.

Iplehouse nYID Rexy by alington
Iplehouse nYID Rexy, a photo by alington on Flickr.
Patience is a virtue--especially when you're a doll collector! If you've recently joined the doll collecting community, or the ball-jointed doll community, you will have discovered the wonderful pre-order period that many companies have for their dolls.

The wonderful thing about pre-ordering dolls is that there is often a fun unveiling event that surrounds this release. Integrity Toys, for example, does a live presentation for W Club members online. It's fun to gather fellow W Club members (and fellow doll collectors) for these releases, and discuss your excitement for each new release.

On the other hand, there is the waiting period after you order your doll. While I can understand that this makes it a lot easier for dealers to know guess many of each doll they need to order, it doesn't usually determine edition size in the world of vinyl and plastic. Very few items these days (with perhaps the exception of Mattel's playline dolls) are produced as open editions.

The wait time can be as short as a week, or as long as a year (or more, depending on licensing issues), with the average about three to six months, I find. Many companies have tried to reduce the wait time for their dolls by scheduling several unveilings throughout the year, closer to production time, which helps reduce the waiting. I understand that it takes time to design, produce, and approve a quality product.

In the BJD world, most dolls aren't even cast before you order them and pay for them in full. Casting and pouring the doll can be affected by weather conditions, which can affect the delivery time of your doll. While most companies strive diligently for a 30 to 45 day delivery time, most take about three to six months to ship a doll.

Considering that each doll is hand poured and cast and sanded, and each doll is strung and painted by hand, and you may also be waiting for another manufacturer's wig or outfit--waiting can be lengthy.

If you are an impatient collector, and you don't mind putting a little work into a doll, you can risk the secondary market for both vinyl and resin. Above, one of my recent secondary market purchases was nothing short of miraculous. It's Iplehouse nYID Rexy, large bust, face-up option C, in special real skin, exactly what my heart desired.

I posted a WTB listing on Den of Angels, and within the hour (or possibly two), I got a response. The seller sent photos the same day, and after receiving my payment (also the same day), she mailed the doll unstrung (to save me shipping) the following day.

Rexy is perfect. Plus, I didn't have to wait for three months. And I feel like my money has stayed within the US economy, and I feel like I've given a new home to a doll--it's like recycling--kind of.

I adore the secondary market. When Steve and Rae decided to keep the DollPage open, I was thrilled beyond belief. So be sure to visit your favorite sites and click on those ads. Don't cause problems or gripe. Be a good customer! Collectors like me really need the secondary market!

If you like, you can see more photos of lovely Rexy on Flickr.

Iplehouse Amy

Amy by alington
Amy, a photo by alington on Flickr.
Ack! Now, where did this doll come from!

Let me introduce you to Iplehouse JID Amy. She's an older doll (I think from 2009) and has special real skin. Somehow, she's ended up in my home.

Eventually, she'll need a new face-up--it's starting to peel a little at the head cap--and she needs new eyelashes. And she definitely needs some new clothes. She's the small bust version, and isn't quite right for MSD sizes.

But oh, is she cute. She has teeth showing. I just love her!

Mari

Mari by alington
Mari, a photo by alington on Flickr.
This is a new addition to my BJD collection. It's Mari, a tiny 10.5" Asian BJD by Limhwa in the For You size. I found her from Junkyspot, who often has these dolls in stock.

She's wearing vintage Francie #1222 Gold Rush and a petticoat from one of the Perfect Beginnings fashion Paks.

I think she's quite lovely with her tan skin tone--she's just a little shorter and thinner than Barbie, and curvier than Francie, but she can wear her clothing. I do need to find her some shoes, however.

You can see additional photos on Flickr. She wears a size 3-4 wig and 6mm eyes--so tiny!

Our new turquoise wall is in use!

Meet Honey Queen Yeru, a tanned version and limited edition by Peak's Woods from 2011. I think she's simply gorgeous.

You can see some additional photos on Flickr--but mostly, I wanted to show off my wall.

Gorgeous Peak's Woods dolls available from a great seller!

Peak's Woods Shaia
My friend and fellow BJD enthusiast Stephen has a few wonderful Peak's Woods dolls listed for sale. Pick them up--at fantastic prices--while you can. These girls are large BJDs (58 cm), and are usually hard to find.

Created for a limited time for last year's New Year's event is Suntan Shaia. Stephen is offering this lovely girl with her limited edition face-up (including the gold glitter eye liner) for just $600. He is including a long auburn wig and fashion with this price as well.
Peak's Woods Goldie
Goldie is a hugely popular sculpt by Peak's Woods, and I'm sure you can see why. Stephen has her listed for sale for just $600. (She is also a 58cm large BJD.) She will include a long blonde wig and a DollHeart fashion.
Peak's Woods Briana - Sweet Dark
Sweet Dark Briana is listed for sale for $650. She includes her default raven wig and eyes, and gorgeous face-up by Peak's Woods. Stephen is also including a DollHeart fashion with this auction as well. (She might be my favorite, and I only have a tan Briana. Someone buy her, quick, so I am not tempted!)

Not only is Stephen a great and reliable seller, he's a fantastic guy and sings great karaoke!

All gorgeous photography is by Stephen Parker.

Nico and Dolls

Nico and Dolls by alington
Nico and Dolls, a photo by alington on Flickr.
One of my more terrifying doll photos--and in case I ever wonder where those runs in my doll photos come from... this is Nico, with Goldie and Alice.

Don't the dolls look nervous?

I can't believe I took this photo. It makes me feel like taking a Xanax.

Kickstarter event from St. Louis BJD Convention!

Press release from St. Louis BJD Convention:

Greetings, Fashion Doll enthusiasts!
We're so excited to be hosting the first annual St. Louis BJD Convention on November 17th, 2012! Many of our committee members are fashion doll collectors as well as Ball-Jointed Doll enthusiasts, and we're planning lots of activities that will appeal to Fashion Doll Fans! If you do not own any BJDs but love dolls, you will still enjoy what we have planned.
To raise funds for this event, we've launched a Kickstarter here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jenrpa/st-louis-bjd-convention
Our convention is centrally located in the Gateway to the West. We have three amazing guests:
Paulette Goodreau www.americanbjd.com  www.mimtoy.comSarah Seiter, known as the Mushroom Peddler http://www.themushroompeddler.com/store/Alison Rasmussen, well-known to anyone who reads this blog!
We have a whole day of programming planned, plus a dealer's room, contests, workshops, discussion panels, and food. Your registration covers meals including the Awards Banquet with our guests. We are also planning a happy hour event on Friday the 16th at our official hotel, and a meet on Sunday to show off some of the awesome locations in the St. Louis area.
Kickstarter is a pledge drive where you pledge at any level that you choose. Minimum donation pledge is $1 but there are lots of levels and each is associated with a special gift created by our committee for our supporters. Even if you can't come to the convention, you can help support our efforts with your pledge.
If we meet our goal you get the gifts you have chosen, and are charged on September 1st for your pledge. Anyone who pledges to get their preregistration is guaranteed a spot and will be registered regardless. If we do not meet our goal you will receive information on how to arrange your payment.
We can make this event happen without the Kickstarter, but we wanted to promote through Kickstarter to try to raise additional funds that would otherwise be out-of-pocket for us. We also want to handle all of our pre-registration through the Kickstarter so that we can provide Sarah Seiter with an accurate number of dolls. She needs lead-time to produce the dolls and needs to know how many dolls to order well in advance. Sarah is providing us with a special doll following our "Year of the Dragon" sub-theme!
It's the last minute! Help support the first Midwestern BJD convention in the United States!

Alice: Out of the Box has also arrived!

As if working on one project at a time weren't enough:
Alice: Out of the Box is an eclectic scrapbook of Alice in Wonderland-themed dolls that have graced the author’s collection over the years. Alice fans and doll collectors alike will enjoy this friendly showcase, including both traditional and contemporary dolls.

From vinyl to resin, the editor of the Fashion Doll Review introduces both restyled, one-of-a-kind, and manufactured eye candy, from girlish befuddlement to Lolita-style ball-jointed beauties. While the author herself does not profess to be a photographer, she hopes to bring her passion for Lewis Carroll’s timeless heroine to the page--in a tiny, redressable, posable art form.

The Out of the Box series is a casual visual reference for doll collectors and fans of the Fashion Doll Review blog. An affordable paperback collection, this series examines specific doll styles, sculpts, and collections in pages filled with color photographs with descriptions. Fashion dolls are styled, dressed, and fashioned according to the book’s theme. Resources and references are included.
Currently for sale on CreateSpace directly, this print-on-demand title is also for sale on Amazon--I'll keep you posted as soon as a preview is available. If you live in Europe, check out this post. I will have copies of this book with me at the Barbie convention and also at IFDC.

New JAMIEshow Evil

JAMIEshow Evil - photo property of Angelic Dreamz.
As seen on the cover of the summer issue of Fashion Doll Quarterly Magazine, Evil is a brand new full-set resin BJD JAMIEshow fashion doll available for order now from Angelic Dreamz. If you're a fan of fashion and fairytales, this doll is for you. (These dolls are SO much fun!)

She uses the lovely Grace head sculpt and includes a red wig cap and a smooth cap as well. Her face-up is amazing--black lips, and smokey makeup which enhances her blue green eyes. Her outfit is an amazing black chiffon dress with a silver laser cut breast plate, velveteen cape with black feather trim, black arm gauntlets.

She also includes a unique silver holster and a knife. And her shoes--wow. I need a close-up of those lovely shoes!

She's limited to just 50 dolls, and her retail is $450.

I think she would look amazing next to the White Swan--especially since I missed out on the Black Swan. (And oh--do I ever want to attend that convention!) I think I might have found Carolyn's first JAMIEshow!
