A centerpiece doll from the 2012 Flights of Fancy closing banquet at the Tonner Doll convention, the gorgeous Toucan uses the Daphne headsculpt on an Antoinette body.
She is a wigged raven doll with blue eyes. I thought I'd post a close-up of her facial screening with hand painted details. She's got some bright lime, orange and gold accented eyeshadow, which works, I think, with her soft blush.

The Parrot
Long overdue for her own photoshoot, The Parrot finally gets a chance in the spotlight.
Antoinette has long been a favorite of mine. This version has perfect red hair in spiral curls, and fabulous facial screening with over-the-top runway make-up. She wears a yellow feather in her hair.
Her dress is many layers of silk, taffeta, tulle, and lace, starting with red in colors of the rainbow, down to the bottom of her skirt hem, where it fades to blue. She's dressed all the colors of the spectrum (or a macaw parrot). Her boots are teal and buckle in three places (also zip in the back).
While she could use some earrings, which I haven't (yet) added, I think she is elegant and lovely--I think she is one of the most gorgeous dolls from Tonner Doll's convention this year. She was a table centerpiece for the Flights of Fancy banquet, limited to 100.

The Parrot
Oh dear. The Flock is complete!
The lovely (Antoinette) Parrot arrived this week, and she is just to die for! I wasn't going to keep all my birds, but just for a little while, I thought I needed the entire set. I'm just pathetic.
I bought the set of five (the Flamingo was the convention doll) at convention for a discounted price, and originally sold Parrot to my fellow conventioneer Carolyn. When I saw the Parrot in my post-con photos, I had a slight change of heart.
And here is my new one. I was able to snag one at the post-convention sale. What is my problem anyway? It's truly a sickness. And man, are my kitties ever tempted!

Amazonia Wonder Woman
From the Amazonia Wonder Woman breakout event from Tonner Convention, this lovely lady is the souvenir doll.
Amazonia is limited to 300 dolls, and retails for $175. She uses a blue-eyed Diana head sculpt on the 16" Heroic body. She includes both regular hands and painted blue fist hands. She has rooted black hair, with painted ringlets.
Her outfit includes a burgundy faux leather bodice with gold bird topstitched on the front, attached blue panties, and a burgundy waist wrap with silver star accents. She also includes navy blue gauntlets and silver gauntlet bracelets, blue choker, nude hose, metallic boots, and a gold crown with a red star.
She includes a stand.

Also from opening night at Tonner's latest convention, Captain Paul uses the new and revised Matt O'Neill sculpt.

Crazy cat lady and Shelley
That would be me.
I'll introduce Shelley, the blonde Tonner Air Stewardess centerpiece from the opening night dessert. She's a limited edition of 100, and is a brown-eyed, forward-glancing Supergirl sculpt.
I was taking photos of her the other day, and I had a little helping hand--or paw, I should say. Technically, I need to revise my doll listings when I state "my cats state away from my dolls," as one obviously is interested in them now. I keep my dolls behind glass--and you can see why.
Chanel, our two year-old ocicat, thinks she is very helpful and photogenic. (She is rather photogenic, actually.) However, she isn't always helpful when she sneaks into the photo frame.

Kay
Another doll from Tonner's 2012 convention - Kay is a Tonner Air stewardess dolls, using a brand new sculpt. She is another doll artist's interpretation of the Cinderella sculpt. She's called Model #3.
She is limited to 100, and as of today, she is still available to order from TonnerDirect for $159.

Jaqueline Frost - per Jim Dandy
Meet Jacqueline Frost - as interpreted by Jim Dandy.
I had the honor and privilege of meeting Jim Dandy at Tonner Con this year. He actually insets glass eyes in vinyl dolls for fun--and I fell in love with many of his creations this year.
This year, Duchess (Jacqueline Frost) is my lucky new addition. She is probably my very favorite convention doll. I just adore her!
She has blue glass eyes and eye lashes, which gives her a really unique look.
My advice: If you get the chance to pick up a Jim Dandy doll that you love--drop everything else and DO IT! He's such a great guy! His work is amazing. You will LOVE it! :)

Animal Magnetism
From the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes Dinner, this is Animal Magnetism, Tonner's 16" Marilyn Monroe sculpt.
She is on a new Starlet body, which uses a Tyler Wentworth bust, and a curvy bottom, and high heel feet. She has rooted blonde hair, blue eyes, and an open mouth.
Her jewelry and her outfit is really nicely done in this piece--and I believe she was limited to 200 dolls. Her jacket is lined and closes in front with a rhinestone clip. Her black gown is also lined, and uses a black on black printed satin.
She wears black peep toe mules with bow detailing at the toe.
I wasn't at first sold on this sculpt--but the more I take her out an play with her, the more I can see her as Marilyn. I really love her!

The Raven
Another bird centerpiece the Raven - also on the Antoinette body, using the Precarious head sculpt. She has a fascinating partial updo with crimped raven hair, and painted brown eyes. She was also deigned for the Flights of Fancy Tonner Convention banquet.
Her outfit includes black lamé tights, faux suede pumps with feather trim, crinkled luminescent chiffon and tulle, styled in a short high-necked gown with puffed sleeves and trimmed with marabou.
Her tail even includes wire for easier posing. She is fabulous! She was one of only 100 dolls created for this event.

The Peacock
This lovely Duchess sculpt is on the Antoinette body, and is another bird from the flock from the Flight of Fancy banquet. She is limited to 100.
She is a gorgeous blue-eyed girl with wonderful curled hair in a high ponytail. Her facial screening includes bright pink lipstick and green eye makeup.
Her gown is a sweetheart neckline, sheer strap a-line dress (lined in white), and her outfit includes a glorious, iridescent, glittering tulle cape.
The cape was styled at convention with wire (I believe) to look like a peacock's fan. I sort of prefer the more traditional cape look, however.
Her shoes are side-zip blue bootlets, trimmed with chartreuse feathers. Adorable!

The Cardinal is another in the flock of birds from the Flight of Fancy banquet from Tonner Convention. She is also limited to 100.
She uses the Antoinette face and body, and has gray blue eyes, and rooted raven hair, with an addition piece of rooted bright red hair in the front, which has been twisted up to look like a hat, with a feather attached.
The Cardinal's facial screening is quite dramatic--her eye shadow is done in reds and pinks. She includes jewelry--a velvet choker and drop beaded earrings.
Her gown is reminiscent of Symphonic (just a little--with the Spanish feel), only with an asymmetrical hemline and more glitter and feathers worked into the dress.
The boa adds a fun piece for play as well. She also includes red satin pumps, and fingerless mesh gloves.

She is my very first Cami, and I could not have been more pleased to add this girl to my collection. Pink, glittering tulle, ribbons, feathers, and just a touch of pale blue on the underskirt make this off-the-shoulder gown a true princess dress.
Gold strappy heels, pink rhinestone stud earrings, and a feathered headpiece complete her look.

Diamonds
This wonderful 22" American Model doll was the centerpiece from the Marilyn Monroe dinner, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, from the 2012 Tonner Convention. She is called Diamonds, and she is a new licensed Marilyn Monroe sculpt.
Her gown is lined pink satin, with black detailing on the bow and slit in the back of the dress. She has a separate pink belt with buckle, and matching pink gloves (and nude gloves to prevent stains). She has pink satin mules that match her outfit as well.
Her jewelry is absolutely fabulous--diamonds really are a girl's best friend in this case--diamonds and dolls!
Marilyn is a limited edition of 100 dolls. She was for sale briefly on Tonner's website, and you might still be able to find her on eBay. After deboxing mine, I'm finding I'm loving her more each day!

Impressions from a first timer
This was my first time at a Tonner Doll convention, and I really had a blast. I'll start my post-convention coverage with a list of things that really impressed me about Flights of Fancy:
- The staff. Oh my goodness! In my years of collecting Tonner Dolls, I've always had a wonderful experience dealing with the Tonner Doll store, so I was expecting to meet some great people at convention. But I had no idea! These people--there were employees from the IT department, even--who were helping out, working crazy long hours--with crazy doll people (in which I of course include myself, less you, dear reader, take offense) no less--from oh-dark-thirty to past midnight, I'm sure. That salesroom--I've never seen anything like it. I only saw smiles and enthusiasm. Really--I can't believe how nice everyone I met was. Michelle--just amazing. Eric (aka Daddy) was such a great sport. Nancy--I had no idea her favorite color was purple. And wow--just terrific. All of them! I have to just say--I really hope they get a huge bonus or something--and they all deserve dolls and big bucks for all the work they did!
- Robert Tonner. I had the honor of meeting him--thanks to my fellow conventioneer and friend, Carolyn, who stalks the booth at San Diego's Comic Con every year, and Michelle. He really loves his collectors, really listens to them, and he's truly an artist. He has a great sense of humor, and the presentation of the history of the fashion doll was amazing and informative. I love that he was willing to take questions from the audience--even some that I found a little... well, rude. I was taken aback by his humility, his pleasure at audience participation and his honest eagerness to please the attendees. Did you know: His current favorite doll (that he worked on) is Chairman of the Bored Ellowyne Wilde?
- The fans. Carolyn and I didn't really know a lot of people attending convention--my first time and her second. Nancy sat us at Kathy Moreau's (Paris Fashion Doll Festival) table, and it was really a perfect fit. I even got to sit with Charlie Riley (Dolls Behaving Badly) and Martie! Also, it was great to meet a lot of different people, put names to faces, and see so many enthusiasts--so many who had come from so far. I love enthusiastic people! And there were so many wonderful collectors to meet!
- The hotel. It was nice, quiet and clean--and apparently, we were fortunate to have had a room on the fifth floor where there was no wedding party! I believe it was also non-smoking, which may be unusual for Chicago (but coming from California, I suppose we are spoiled out here).
- The guest presenters. I have to confess, I was wary about both the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and the Wonder Woman event. I'm not much a comic book or celebrity doll collector, so I wasn't sure if I should sign up for these breakout events, but I figured--when in Rome.... I was more than delighted! Scott Fortner, who runs the website The Marilyn Monroe Collection, gave a wonderful, informative, and touching presentation on this often misunderstood icon. For the life of me--I cannot remember or find the name of the woman who presented at the Wonder Woman event, but she was terrific!
- The raffle and door prizes. I didn't win any, but Carolyn did. I loved it, and the enthusiasm (for the most part) that the other collectors showed when people won prizes!
- The charity auction. I didn't know about the auction event before I left--and I think I should budget for it next time. There were not only gorgeous dolls, but the money goes for a fantastic cause!
Things I am glad I did before convention:
- Budget! Enough said.
- Color my hair. I think it made me look much more extroverted than I am, which helped me talk to people. (I'm really a shy person, and large crowds tend to be a little out of my element.)
- Bring business cards.
- Bring a few dress-up outfits.
- Bring a camera.
Things that were slightly disappointing:
- The shuttle service. I'll just spring for a cab next time. The shuttle was late and dirty, and packed to the gills on the way home.
- Chicken, chicken, chicken. I know, most people eat chicken. I eat chicken. That's why it's always served. But wouldn't it be great to have sushi? (It's just me, isn't it?) Seriously, though--the food was great! I was just tired of chicken by the end of the weekend. I'm glad there were other choices, too.
- Lines. Oh my goodness. I'm always surprised at how well people are (or are not) able to stand in line at conventions. Maybe it would be better to raffle off numbers at the events, and then stand in line according to number.
- Crowds. See above. Thank goodness I'm not claustrophobic.
Things I should have been aware of before I left for convention:
- Tonner Doll boxes are bigger than they seem. There's no way all those dolls I brought home would fit in my extra suitcase, and I can't even fit leftovers in extra containers!
- Don't clean out your wallet too well before you leave for the airport. (It's a long drive back home for your driver's license at 4:45 am. Ugh!)
- Your traveling companion might be more extraverted than you. Meaning: she might tell everybody about your driver's license experience and make you dance, even when you don't know the Electric Slide!
- Bring a keyboard. IPads are awesome for travel--I don't have a laptop--but my fingers are too tired at the end of the day for typing.
- You really miss your kids. Oh my. I really missed them.
- I really missed my husband. (Did you know he didn't even gripe about me leaving my license at home? He's the best!)
- I even missed my cats! (I am a crazy cat lady and a crazy doll lady.)
- Exhaustion. You don't know how busy you're going to be until you get there. I'll use my phone's calendar next time.
- You can't bring too much spending money.

Tonner Doll's blog is your top source for information. As I have seen, there were several very informative posts on the event, which were done practically real-time, I'm pretty sure by Joanne, who was on her feet, smiling, cheerful and in costume for every event. Kevin, Tonner's social media director, has also done a great job with updating the blog with attendee tweets and photos, too.

And I have to say--I really am most surprised and delighted about the new Marilyn Monroe doll. We saw an amazing presentation of her--so much I didn't know!--including that this "curvy" lady was 5 feet and 5.5" tall, and 140 pounds at her heaviest. To me, that's not very curvy! And certainly not today's size 14. At any rate, her usual weight was 117 pounds.
