Charity auction event

Rather painful charity auction only offered five dolls. It didn't go any faster, though. Next time, I'll be emptying my 401k to participate and move things along. I thought my dear husband was going to poke his eye out with a fork. Beautiful dolls, though!

Ninimomo Statue of Liberty theme - something patriotic - Sherry Martin designed the acrylic display  like always.

Robert Best - Mattel hired Carlyle four years ago, and this is his first auction doll. She was dressed in a black and white dress, deep v-neck, raven hair. (Carlyle is active on Flickr, BTW.) Doll's gown is beaded ombré fringe. She uses the Stephen Burrows sculpt in the peace skin tone with blue and black hair. She is called Evangelice

Sorry--I didn't get photos of the dolls this year. So crowded in the room, and we had nose bleed seats. Can't wait to see additional designs from Carlyle, though! His doll was fabulous.

It's that time again!

The Young Sophisticate Poppy Parker

It's that time again. The kids are back in school, and I'm getting back into the swing of things. Also, I'm going through a major crisis in my doll collection, and working on several books at the same time. Finding my doll budget wanting, I've found it necessary to list a few lovely dolls for sale on the DollPage Show & Sell page again. I hope it's OK to bug you, dear readers, with my first batch of listings.

Above, you'll see I've listed the latest W Club Poppy Parker exclusive. She's never been removed from her box and includes a cute little dog as well.

Irresistible Dania Zarr

Perhaps the tan skin, platinum haired beauty Dania Zarr is more to your taste? She is also NRFB.

Royal Amelie, pink hair version - FR Nippon

A rare find and one I'm not 100% sure I want to part with, I've listed pink hair variation Royal Amelie as well. She's been carefully displayed behind glass, but is complete and has never been redressed.

 If fancy jewels and gowns are your style, check out Captivating Anja. She's a steal at $130.

Promenade Amelie - FR Nippon

Another Japanese exclusive and new arrival for me, Promenade Amelie. She's limited to just 300, and she has the same body as Poppy Parker.

Steffie of the Day: Vidal Sassoon Barbie 1970s

I can't post about the 1960s version Vidal Sassoon Barbie and not also post about the 1970s version as well. Also styled after J-Pop start Namie Amuro, this doll's styling is inspired by an outfit worn in the music video to Rock Steady:



You can see sort of a crappy full-length shot of both dolls, which Leslie of The Vintage Goddess had for sale for $2400 at this year's Barbie Convention, here:



The 1970s version is actually for sale in her online store (I believe the set sold at convention). I think the 1960s version comes up less often and is slightly more popular.

Her arm is actually on the same side as one of the original Barbie Basic Model 03, though this doll wasn't released as a Target exclusive till two years later. Her hair style is also similar, though her facial screening is quite different.

Her outfit is really cute--check out the beaded details and the boots in the full-length photo.

Again, I'd love to add both to my collection. I can't decide which doll I like most!

Steffie of the Day: Vidal Sassoon 1960s Barbie exclusive

This special and hard-to-find Barbie was exclusive to the Japanese market (in 2008) and was not available to purchase. She was raffled off as a prize, limited to a small edition of 300 dolls. Japanese pop star Namie Amuro promoted these dolls in conjunction with Vidal Sassoon, who gave this doll (along with the 1970s-styled version) away as prizes to people who participated in a contest.

As you might notice, this doll may have started off as a Barbie Basic Model No. 03. However, the dolls that have this face mold don't have brown eyes, their facial screening is different, and their arm poses (there are several versions of this doll) are slightly different (this doll's arm is on the opposite hip, for example, compared to one of the dolls).

The outfit is pretty much identical to the one Namie Amuro wears in the New Look video, and it's really well done.

I would love to have this doll in my collection, but the dolls rarely come up for sale. Leslie, the lovely and wonderful The Vintage Goddess on eBay, had both versions for sale at this year's Barbie convention. She was gracious enough to allow me to take photos of both.

The asking price for the dolls varies, depending on what the original owners ask--in this case, the set included both dolls (they are rarely found as a set), and was $2400. From what I can tell, the set is sold, but she still has the 1970s version available and in stock.

Leslie is your go-to person for anything hard-to-find when it comes to Barbie, by the way, and especially Japanese exclusives!

Raffle Steffie from Magia 2000

Here's pretending that it hasn't been a week since my last post--I must apologize. My kids have started school, and my oldest starts after Labor Day, but has started (no joke) an all-day band camp. I have four kids in three different schools in two districts this year. The driving is a little crazier than I'm accustomed to, it seems.

I'm usually a no-nonsense kind of parent--it's a requirement as a mom of four. There is just no other option. But since David is in high school this year (how did that happen? Am I really no longer in my 30s?), I feel like the, er, responsible thing to do is to allow some extra-curricular activities into the schedule, and to encourage them, even. We'll see how long this lasts.

That being said and, while my sanity is mostly still in tact, this is another favorite from the Magia 2000 fashion show. She is a gorgeous Steffie repaint with a beautiful fashion. Amazingly, Mario and Gianni found it reasonable to create her for a raffle prize and gave her away to one lucky person in attendance at the show that night!

Which was my personal favorite from the Magia 2000 The Colours collection? Oh, do you really have to ask?

Of course it's this girl. She is a former a Barbie Basics Model 03 (Steffie), with a complete repaint and hair restyle. Her gown is soft pink with intricate beading and silver thread embroidery. Her large green cape gives her the appearance of movement. She includes beaded jewelry as well.

Magia 2000 fashion show

The most amazing event at Barbie convention this year was the Magia 2000 fashion show. Sure, I'm giving myself away as a fan girl (again!), but I just can't help it. Glittering dolls with perfect repaints, hand embroidery, sequins, crystal, silk, satin, and chiffon--I go nuts!

Mario did the narration, and Gianni and Ibrahim Ismail (another talented designer) assisted with tray-passing the dolls down the runway. Special guest and OOAK collector Richard Simmons joined in as a doll-passer as well, about halfway through the show.

The collection was introduced as The Colours collection. There were 50 one-of-a-kind dolls introduced, plus an additional raffle doll and the pair of silent auction dolls as well.

Next year, I'll be sure to budget accordingly--I won't be leaving without one of these amazing pieces. Each one was really an amazing work of art. And did I mention: I could have listen to the descriptions (and speaker, Mario) all night? Simply mesmerizing.

I've uploaded photos of the NBCC 2013 Raffle Room, and this is probably one of my favorite (surprise!) sets. Of course, you'd think by this time I'd remember to take full photos--including the artist and who donated them. Years later I'll be that organized!

Magia 2000 Live Auction Donation

Oh my--if funds were unlimited...

My favorite item from the live auction was Marie Antoinette by Magia 2000. Exquisitely beaded and embroidered sapphire silk, this wonderful repainted Silkstone is a gorgeous tribute to Bob Mackie's Madame du Barbie. She helped raise money for the charity auction, and is simply a work of art.

In my mind, she said yes to the dress!

Barbie is Eternal, blonde version

Here is the caucasin version of this year's Barbie convention doll, Barbie is Eternal. She was designed by Gianni Grossi and Mario Paglino of Maggia 2000. With her Roman-inspired gown and elegant accessories she is truly a beauty.

2012 Barbie Con Dressmaker Details Fashions

Parisian Pleasure was presented to conventioneers at the Paris breakfast and fashion show. It consists of a black one-shoulder sheath with sequin detail on half of the bodice, hat with faux feathers, purse with beaded detail, black gloves, and black open-toe shoes.

St. Petersburg Sophisticate was given to conventioneers at the White Nights dinner. It consists of a 2 piece white suit with pink embroidered accents and faux fur trim, earrings, necklace, white gloves, faux fur hat, hose, and white closed-toe shoes with sling backs.

Both fashions were designed by Steven Fraser of Dressmaker Details Couture and will fit Silkstone Barbie dolls.

White Nights in St. Petersburg

Sassy Tarina, my travel doll, all ready for the White Nights in St. Petersburg dinner event and charity auction on Friday evening at Barbie convention 2012.

She is dressed in a Jennygrey fashion, Barbie Basics belt, and Facets by Marcia jewelry.

Barbie Con Passport souvenir

One of our convention goodies this year was this set of convention pins and a passport to hold them all. The 2012 theme was "Barbie: The Grand Tour" and the set of pins included the official convention pin (a globe with a Barbie plane that actually "flys" across the globe), Bon Voyage pin (luggage), and pins representing Barbie in London, Paris, St. Petersburg, and Rome.

One of the lovely dolls from the charity auction at Barbie Convention, this lovely doll was created by Rob Thomspon and I believe Steven Fraser from Dressmaker Details.

Her hair has a rose cast to it--I got to see a close-up of her during room sales. She's simply gorgeous.

She's the convention doll from this year's Barbie convention, designed by Magia 2000. I think she's simply gorgeous!

I chose the African American version--the Caucasian version uses the Mackie sculpt, I believe.
