We received her as part of the London luncheon today, along with a gorgeous Barbie steamer trunk.

News from Barbie Collector

Some interesting news from Barbie Collector:

First, be sure to check out the Mermaid Barbie, a Gold Label doll designed by Linda Kyaw. She was released on February 8, and she's currently on backorder through March 8 (but available for purchase). Retail is $100. She wears an outfit with a sheer bodice applied rhinestones and beading, and sequined tail skirt with pleated organza tail. She includes the rock wave display stand. [I'm not positive, but she looks like the Diva facial sculpt.]

Second, released yesterday and due to ship on March 22, the William and Catherine Royal Wedding Giftset has been released. This set is also a Gold Label and retails for $100, it includes both dressed William and Catherine dolls, in full wedding regalia. I have to say, I adore Catherine's Alexander McQueen's wedding gown and her gorgeous ring.

Third: Let's Play Barbie. This is a brand new series of of reproduction Barbie in an addictive form. I hear these will cost $175. Here's how it works:

1. You choose a reproduction swimsuit doll, blonde, brunette or redhead. The doll includes a reproduction box, earrings, sunglasses and shoes.
2. In the spring, you'll receive your doll and the first seasonal fashion, Spring Garden Party. (The fashion looks pretty fabulous!)
3. Every season, a new fashion will arrive: June is Resort Set, then Dinner at Eight in August, then October's Winter Holiday.

I think it's a great idea. The fashions look well made from the promotional photos. I can't wait to see!

Fourth, Barbie's Dream Closet. You can read about here. I played around with it, and it's pretty neat. You can try on Barbie's wardrobe, share photos with your friends, and it's... interesting. I think it would work better with a solid or neutral background behind your computer. (Notice, I'm not sharing any photos here.) It's worth checking out, though, for the novelty factor.

2011 Barbie Convention Goodies

Here are a few of the gifts we received at this year's Barbie convention. First up is a set of swimsuit outfits presented to conventioneers at Thursday's "All the Boys" brunch. These fashions were designed by Steve Skutka and include surf boards, swimsuits, beach jackets, towels, a beach bag, jewelry, and accessories. Notice  how the traditional vintage Ken and Barbie colors are reversed.

At the Mattel "Celebrating Ken" 50th birthday dinner we were presented with this reproduction Barbie and Ken gift set called "In the Swim". This is the first reproduction Ken to have painted hair. Barbie is a blonde ponytail wearing a blue version of the PAK In the Swim outfit.

On Friday at the 60's Beach movies luncheon we received these darling Barbie and Ken party outfits designed by Steve Skutka. Barbie's fashion includes a dress, jacket, shoes, jewelry, and short white gloves. Ken's fashion includes a white shirt, black pants, "yachtsman" cap, checked jacket, socks, shoes, and a watch. The retro pink and blue packaging is adorable.

Lastly our convention dolls were presented at Saturday's Barbie & Ken, The Ultimate Couple Dinner. Barbie features the TNT face mold and Ken is based on the "New Ken". The convention dolls in their semi-formal fashions were designed by Matt Sutton and Matt Trujillo and the giftset is called "Spring Break 1961".

Grant A Wish Convention 2011 Centerpiece

Here is the GAW 2011 convention centerpiece from Saturday's luncheon. (Yes, I  won!) It consists of a reproduction American Girl Barbie and Ken. Barbie's dress was created by cutting down a repro Wedding Day Set gown which was dyed a mint green color. Ken's fashion was a repro Victory Dance fashion which was restyled to resemble a Captain's outfit. Fashion restyling by Janie Hunt, Linda Carter, and Dwayne Addle. Miniature food, ice bucket, champagne, and glasses by Chef Gina. You can  shop for Chef Gina's realistic food for fashion dolls here.
