Other new arrivals...

I've also finally uploaded some real photos of a few dolls I received recently and added to my collection a while ago.
Basic Louise Devereaux wearing Song of the Evening had a chance to pose for a couple of better shots, showing her better side. Plus, I've showcased my two beauties from the Metrodolls fundraiser, Magnolia and Julia (Tess sculpt) from the Broadway musical Showboat.
For more shots, check out my complete gallery.

My grails have arrived!

By a lucky chance, I happened to find both Paris Fashion Doll Festival dolls, La Belle Mademoiselle Sydney and Mademoiselle A La Mode Tyler, direct from the show sponsor last week. (You have to email to check availability of the items, so use Google's language tools, if your French isn't very good.) They arrived in today's mail, and I was delighted. I ended up paying half the price (even with the current crappy Euro/USD exchange rate and international shipping) that I have seen from mainstream US dealers and on Ebay. And, what's even better--the dolls are even more gorgeous in person than in any photos I have seen. My only problem--how to top these dolls with any further purchases. They are my current favorites.

A surprise to me was Tyler. First, her dress is actually not gray, but a soft celadon green. Gorgeous. And I just adore her raven curls and soft natural makeup and original sculpt. I really miss Tyler 1.0. I was sure Sydeny would be my favorite--and she certainly is glamorous--but I adore Tyler! I can't decide who I like best!

The Gift - sale at Two Daydreamers

If you've been interested in the two-doll set, The Gift, Gianetto and Analissa, there hasn't been a better time. The set of both dolls is listed on sale at Two Daydreamers for just $159.99 and is in stock now. Regular retail is $379.99. Both dolls are limited edition of 500, and originally sold separately.

Analissa, the female "marionette", is a standard-bodied Euphemia sculpt with rooted black hair. Her costume features a full silk shantung patchwork lapshade dress with pompom trim, and period pleated collar and matching cuffs. I dig her striped tights and mules. Of course, she must also include a Napoleonic hat to complete her look.

Gianetto, the male "marionette," has the same pleated collar and cuffs and Napoleonic hat, with coordinating patchwork pants and shirt. He also includes striped stockings and matching shoes with buckles. This doll features the Sean sculpt with wigged black hair.

Penny Lane picture posted...

The last of the Fall/Holiday 2008 line-up, from the new Jeremy Voss collection, a rather surprising version of Ava. Auburn curls in an exotic up-do with blue eyes, Ava's stronger chin hasn't been one of my favorites in the past. Maybe it's the up-do that balances out her larger chin, but I have to admit I'm intrigued. I can't wait to see real-life photos of this doll. And I love her outfit!

She's sporting a copper cocktail dress with a petaled taffeta skirt, complete with metallic hose and adorable peep-toe shoes. She's priced at $159.99 retail, and is available for pre-order from many doll shops at below that price. (Dreamcastle Dolls is offering her for just $133.) She's scheduled to ship at the end of October.

Tonner Doll picks up license for TWILIGHT characters!

I'm excited to see that Tonner Doll will be producing character figures for this new vampire series. The first two characters scheduled for release are Edward Cullen (based on actor Robert Pattinson) and Bella Swan (likeness of Kristen Stewart).

I hope the introduction of these dolls will instigate a renewed interest in doll collecting in the younger crowd. I'd love to see more doll shops in my area, and an active doll collecting group and at least an annual show, featuring modern and fashion dolls.

Based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling books, Summit Entertainment's movie adaptation of TWILIGHT is scheduled for release on November 21, 2008. You can read Tonner's press release here.

Tonner promotional photos from Metrodolls luncheon

From the TonnerSpace newsletter for September, I noticed a few promotional shots of the gorgeous exclusive dolls from the Metrodolls fundraising luncheon. Beginning tomorrow, September 18, extras of these dolls may be available for purchase. So check out their website!

Ultra Basic Julie (Tess sculpt with an adorable updo on a tan Tyler body) is a limited edition 150, and she is the companion doll. She is also shown here modeling the souvenir outfit, A Day on the Mississippi.

Magnolia is a new sculpt, who, like Julie, was inspired by the Broadway musical Showboat. She's a limited edition of just 200 dolls, and was created exclusively for this Metrodolls event. She was the souvenir doll, and I am thrilled to have purchased an absentee package for this event--I am checking the mail daily!

New Ultra Basic Shauna from Angelic Dreamz

I was delighted to discover the unveiling of a new Ultra Basic doll, Shauna (also known as Sweetheart or Queen of Hearts), offered exclusively through Angelic Dreamz this morning. Offered at the bargain price of just $59.99, you can pre-order her now for a mid-October delivery. Also, if you order $100 or more from Angelic Dreams before September 15 (I believe) you can get free shipping on your order. Keep in mind that with Angelic Dreamz, you do pay for the doll in full upon checkout to guarantee your purchase.
Like the other Ultra Basic dolls from Tonner, Shauna also has 13 points of articulation, and includes a classic knit bodysuit with clear straps. She does not include a stand or shoes, so she's awaiting your choice of outfit.
She's available as a brown-eyed platinum bombshell or a blue-eyed mixed red (also known as Auburn), which I have not seen before in this sculpt. Both dolls are limited editions of 150 dolls, too, so that makes them extra special. Shauna is one of my favorite sculpts.

BJD story on NPR

I heard it on NPR... so it must be true!  (Just kidding!)

Check out the story and audio posted on September 9, 2008 on All Things Considered by Nancy Mullane, who attended Dollectable, a BJD convention in San Francisco.  There are even photos posted on NPR's website!

Just a note... this story played right after a story about cable TV (which featured a short clip about Project Runway).

Sydney Chase Ultimate Basic™ - Bearzabout Exclusive

The newest ball-jointed doll from Robert Tonner has arrived--and it's our long-awaited friend, Miss Sydney Chase. She features the same 11 standard joints and 3 ball joint, like the previous Ultimate Basics™ dolls, and is made with from hand-finished luminescent resin. She has interchangeable eyes and hand-painted face paint. She includes blue eyes, and three wigs.
Previewed in these gorgeous production shots, you can see a few of the Tyler Wentworth Ensembles from the Fall/Holiday 2008 Mainline Boutique Collection. Sydney actually will come wearing the shorter, brighter red wig and a white teddy and shoes.
She's also only available through Bearzabout.com, and she's a limited edition of just 100 dolls. Sydney is one of my favorite sculpts, and I have to say--this BJD version of her is truly magnificent!
