Mari as Mod Alice

Mari as Mod Alice, originally uploaded by alington.
Yay! It only took me three tries, but now, I know how to restring BJDs for real. (It pays to do a little research before you take your doll apart.) Watching a video tutorial really helped. I love the one on BJD Collectasy's site--it's perfect.

I was so excited that I restrung my Bobobie and one of my Elfdoll tinies, too.

Anyway, Mari has been restrung and sueded (check out her pose!), seam lines sanded, blushed very subtly, given new eyelashes and eyes... and several photo shoots. You can check them out on Flickr.

This is my favorite look. She's wearing a OOAK outfit by Nancie from Nankatts, Lacey wig by Leeke, shoes and socks by DollHeart, and is trying out some new acrylic eyes in aqua.

Mari, sanded with new lashes

Mari, sanded with new lashes, originally uploaded by alington.
Cutie Angel Mari (my latest addition Asian BJD) has had her seam lines sanded, plus I gave her new longer eye lashes and am trying out some aqua acrylic eyes.

She still needs some better elastic--she doesn't stand very solidly, in spite of her sueding. And I'd still like to add some body blush.

But I think she's very sweet.

Chris in blue

Chris in blue, originally uploaded by alington.
Another shot of Impldoll Christopher, my white skin elf. She's wearing a wig that was included with Cutie Angel Mari (it's slightly too large), and a one-of-a-kind Mod Alice outfit by Nancie of Nankatts.

She's just serene and lovely. I'd love to add another ImplDoll to my collection. I think Chris is feeling a bit isolated lately. She needs a more mature friend.

Cutie Angel Mari

Mari, originally uploaded by alington.
So meet my newest addition, Asian BJD Mari by Cutie Angel. She's an SD size, and she's just adorable. You just want to give her a little hug and make her feel better.

I got her on a great sale from Denver Doll. She had a little shelf wear, so she came with a wig (a different one), the outfit and some fantastic boots. This wig is by Leeke, called Lacey in Baby Brown, and I just love it on her.

I do have a couple of projects I'd like to do with this doll. First, she needs serious help with her seam lines. Sanding first! I think I'll take her apart for this task, since she also needs restringing--she's pretty loosely strung, and my tightening attempt didn't help her arms. And I'd like to suede her, too.

Her eye lashes are just painted beautifully, but I think I'll give her longer real ones on top, also.

Tuesday Tea for Two

Alice Kingsleigh, originally uploaded by alington.
It's been a little while, but I've got a fun new tea-ppropriate doll to share for Tuesday Tea for Two again. This fun event is sponsored by Wanda Lee of The Plumed Pen--check out her lovely, artistic blog!

Above you'll find Alice Kingsleigh, the first release of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland line by Tonner Doll Company. She stands 16" tall with lovely dark blonde curls and brown eyes. And I even got her to stad on her own--without her included doll stand.

I just adore her little boots. I'd totally wear them in my size. You can see the rest of Alice's photoshoot on Flickr.

Just a note on the photo: I took this in my son's room, since I love the mellow color of his wall. David is ten. He was pestering me the entire time, "Are you done yet? Can you get that doll out of here?" Makes me sort of want to go pose my doll in his room while he is at school as a nice little surprise... and maybe to tease him just a little bit.

Don't forget to visit The Plumed Pen today. And you can participate as well, if you have a blog. It's really quite fun!

Budgeting issues...

Are you having issues with sticking to your budget when newly released dolls come out around IDEX or Toyfair? I do. I'm always tempted to buy or preorder every new doll I see. Let me show you how NOT to handle your budget.

Since publishing the article, I have come across several additional Don'ts:

  • Troll around on doll message boards or for-sale sites, especially when you don't have money burning a hole in your pocket.
  • "Browse" around on Ebay, just for the sake of window shopping. There is no such thing as "window shopping" on the internet!

Meet Alice Kingsleigh

Alice Kingsley, originally uploaded by alington.
Eeeeek! Meet Alice Kingsleigh, the first arrival in the Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland collection by Tonner Doll Company. In my opinion, the doll looks older than actress Mia Wasikowska, but I find her endearing and wonderful on her own. Honestly, I haven't been this enchanted by a Tonner Doll in a long, long time. I think she's absolutely fabulous.

Her dress is blue organza with blue button details down the front, black embroidery at the hem, and lace detailing at the collar. The sleeves have intricate pin tucks. Her soft cotton petticoat is trimmed with black and white bias ribbon. She's wearing white and blue striped tights and matching fingerless gloves. Accessories include a gold necklace with a red jewel and the most fantastic white and black lace-up boots with tiny button details I've seen from Tonner. They look like mini Fluevogs. Adorable!

You can see more photos of her first shoot on my Flickr photostream. Let me know what you think of her. I was so pleasantly surprised--I'd seen a few photos of her from IDEX and Toyfair, I was sure I'd be disappointed. But I think she's lovely.

Fantasia by ImplDoll

A new exclusive ball-jointed doll, limited to only 50 pieces, has been announced by ImplDoll, and she's a lovely fantasy character. Fantasia stands 63.5 cm (25 inches) tall, and includes a pair of glass eyes (random color). She has lavender skin. She includes elf hands and feet as well as human hands and feet (both flat and high heel). And she can stand in her elf feet as well. In addition, her elf ears (more like mermaid ears than elf ears) are magnetic.

Base price is $405 for the doll. Face up is additional $38. If you want, you can also add blushing to her elf hands and feet for $60, and her outfit for $36. It's not stated, but I think the wig may be included.

I have to confess, I'm sorely tempted. I own Christopher, a white-skin the elf, and she is simply lovely! I just love this doll--she's so... purple! Of course, she is available from your favorite ImplDoll dealer. Go check out more photos on ImplDoll's website. Let me know what you think! Is she weird? Am I?

Alyce redressed in Death Becomes Her

Alyce redressed, originally uploaded by alington.
This is Alyce, Tonner's Reimagination Alice in Wonderland doll (a small-bust Stella sculpt) who has been redressed in a new outfit--Death Becomes Her.

The necklace and earrings were included with the outfit. (Love them!) See the rest of her photo shoot on my Flickr photostream.

Did you know that some Tonner Doll dealers will actually split the outfit and the doll for you, and sell you just the doll (nude) and the outfit separately? This is a great way for you to get just the outfit or doll you want. One of my favorites is Dreamcastle Dolls. (Carol is just awesome.) It's a great way to stay in your budget, too.

All I can say is this: Girls like guys with skills.

And one more Tonner Update - Jacob Black!

Coming soon -- from Tonner Doll, Jacob Black, the newest addition to the Twilight™ line.

I don't have an estimated date yet, but I believe the retail price will be $149. He'll be available from your favorite Tonner Doll dealer.

I hope he looks as convincing as his promo photo. He's pretty good!

Tonner news!

I have some interesting Tonner Doll updates for you.

I hear that both Dr. Who™ and Torchwood™ have finally received approval from the BBC (!!), and images should be coming shortly.

Second, the remaining promo photos from the Cami & Jon™ Line have been posted, if you haven't seen them already. Jon is short for Jonquil, and I'm rather pleased to see she's a gorgeous Jaq sculpt on a honey skin tone Antoinette body.

Also, earlier, I mentioned that all the Cami dolls would be released with green eyes (which I was sure was listed on Tonner's website). But that's been updated. The redhead has brown eyes, the blonde has green eyes and the brunette has blue eyes.

The remaining two outfit photos have also been posted, and they are pretty amazing. Mood is a layered outfit, consisting of a pale blue knit cami under a silk tank, tied with a rose-colored sash. The top is paired with capri jeans and studded t-strap shoes. A pastel trench covers it all, and the look is finished with faux pearl jewelry.

With a Twist consists of a knit bodysuit trimmed with ribbon around the neckline and a flowing tiered skirt, topped with furry tie-front jacket. Sparkling jewelry, socks and faux leather boots complete this look.

From the Gone with the Wind collection, the 22" Twelve Oaks doll has been added, complete with a new sculpt.

To the Effanbee line, Patsyette has been added.

Check out the remaining Antoinette images, also. I have to confess, I like the new Antoinette Muse Basics.

Sydney On the Rocks

Sydney On the Rocks, originally uploaded by alington.
This is probably my all-time favorite Sydney Chase--a Chelsea's Collector Cottage exclusive, Sydney On The Rocks. She was a limited edition of 300, created for the 2006 Dolls In Oz event.

I bought mine new, but I can't seem to find her jewelry. I still love her.

I should have gotten a photo of her shoes--they are adorable. Next time! This photoshoot was interrupted by my kids--coming home from school. But you can see some of the rest of the photos on Flickr.

Marvelously Morose - My Dark Valentine

Marvelously Morose, originally uploaded by alington.
This is one of Tonner Doll's Halloween convention dolls from 2008, Sister Dreary Marvelously Morose. She's been redressed in a one-of-a-kind Mod Alice (rather wonderfully dark) outfit, that is convertible to fuchsia--specifically for my Valentine's Day display.

I love this girl.

The outfit was created by Nancie at Nankatts, and Nancie does fabulous stuff--she designed this for me based of a photo and my descriptions. She knew exactly what I wanted, and did a wonderful job.

See the rest of Sister Dreary's photoshoot on Flickr. Enjoy your weekend!

Meet Adel!

Adel, originally uploaded by alington.
My newest ball-jointed doll has arrived, and she's a cutie!

Meet Adel, a special edition Elfdoll tiny with human ears from 2007. I bought her used on Den of Angels. I couldn't be happier.

And she included two extra head caps. With these dolls, you glue the wigs onto the head caps to switch them. Now, I have two extra options of my little girls to wear. Hooray! And, now I have an extra pair of high heel feet, so I can restring Sylf, if I'd like her to be able to stand.

Adel is so sassy and classy. She's only 5.5" (about 14 cm) tall. So cute and tiny.

Visit my Flickr photostream to see her box opening (the seller even wrapped her up so nicely!), her first photo shoot, and also Adel posing with the rest of my tiny family.

Lan in Frivolous

Lan in Frivolous, originally uploaded by alington.
It turns out my slim MSD Lan BJD (by Bobobie), who can share clothes with Tyler Wentworth, actually shares clothes even better with Antoinette. She's slimmer than Tyler, so this outfit, Frivolous, designed for the 2009 Antoinette collection (Tonner Doll Company), fits perfectly.

Shoes are a bit snug--they are for an American Model--but they do just fine. Her wig is Faith by Monique Gold.

You can see the rest of this shoot on my Flickr photostream.

Anya in pink

Anya in pink, originally uploaded by alington.
I'm getting ready for Valentine's Day and converting my dolls to pink outfits and hair, where I can.

This is Anya, newly sueded (I'm working an a blog post to explain sueding for my Dolls blog) and blushed. She's wearing Morphoa's pink wig today, and it's a bit big, but really cute.

I am so excited to tell you I've seen real-life photos of Kim Lasher's 2010 dolls, including Simply Alice. If you have the funds, and have been considering a doll, you might want to check out her website today and over the next few days--they are wonderful. Also, she previewed a smaller doll, Violet, who might be YoSD sized. So adorable. (Must have!)

My family will be eating rice and beans for the rest of the year if I'm not careful! See the rest of Anya's photoshoot on Flickr.
